Why did you decide to pursue a degree/licensing in Christian Counseling?
As a longtime small group facilitator and prayer partner at a large church, I have come to realize the incredible need for credible Christian counselors and the part they play in ministering to broken and discouraged people. After initially taking the Deliverance course, I felt led to continue with the doctoral courses in order to gain the knowledge and confidence I needed to serve people with excellence.
Why did you select Above & Beyond Counseling Academy as your school?
I was referred by a friend at church who was encouraging me to get my Deliverance ministry credentials. After researching several options, I believed that Above and Beyond was the best fit for me, and was very affordable.
What was your overall experience with the training?
I was very impressed with the level of expertise of the instruction and the authors of the courses. My facilitator was always ready to respond to any questions and assist me with the process. I liked the ability to choose from the abundance of courses, and to set my own pace. I could set my own course of direction depending on my interests.
Which teachings or aspects of the program did you enjoy the most?
I benefited much from the Creation Therapy course, which set the foundation for using the APS to assist with every client. My interest is in using cognitive counseling skills to work with clients who are having difficulty. I especially appreciated the courses on dealing with anger, depression, co- dependency and couple counseling.
What have you done (or plan to do) with your degree/licensing?
I plan to be available to provide services for adults, mostly women, in developing a new picture of themselves as Christ sees them. I also have a calling for premarital counseling, which is close to my heart.
Any suggestions you would make to potential students who are considering this training?
I would highly encourage anyone seeking a Christian Counseling degree to choose Above and Beyond Academy. It has been a wonderful experience working with Dr. Ibbitson. A&B is very affordable, and the pay-as-you-go feature was exceptionally appreciated. I would encourage each student to attend the annual NCCA Conference. It was a great opportunity to meet with the other counselors and the founders, who are all wonderful people, sincere in their vision and personal attention to all members.
Feeling prepared and confident to step into Pastoral Christian counseling, as I depend on the Lord’s favor and wisdom to serve Him.
