Why did you decide to pursue a license in Christian Counseling?
Being a pastor for over twenty-five years placed me in a compromising situation on many occasions when individuals and families came to me for counseling. I always felt as if I were short-changing them. And to be honest, I felt on too many occasions; I caused more pain in their lives because of my lack of training. I knew that God was prompting me to acquire the skills that would better prepare me to offer better help to those hurting.
Why did you select Above & Beyond Counseling Academy as your school?I was in ministry with a young lady who expressed her positive experience with the program. Her passion was contagious. I was convinced that God was speaking to me through her. Therefore, I went on the website and pursued what I believe was a prompting of the Holy Spirit.
What was your overall experience with the training?
My experience at Above & Beyond was tremendously transformative. It clarified many questions that I struggled with in my spiritual journey. It also gave me tools that others would find beneficial. Ms. Mckee, who was my supervisor, was always available, and spiritually up to my challenges. I have already invited two of my colleagues to experience what God is doing at Above & Beyond.
Which teachings or aspects of the program did you enjoy the most?
Learning and embracing my Temperament was huge, and giving others the privilege to experience the same brought me joy..
What have you done (or plan to do) with your degree/licensing?
I plan to make my gifts and graces available to those who are hurting in these difficult times.
Other comments/suggestions.
My advice to pastors, in particular, is for them to trust the process. It challenges some core beliefs at the onset, but as they internalize and trust the process, it will be life-changing.
